I'm in.
I've been wanted to try some RORs forever, so this contest came at the perfect time. With the kokufu happening and the spring market at UGC, I had a few maybe species in mind for this.
Ultimately, I didn't find anything that I really wanted and ended up with my least favotite of all of them. Not the chojubai, nor the Chinese quince, but the humble Chaenomeles speciosa (flowering quince). As I mentioned, I'm not a huge fan, as I tend to think of them as the chubby version of the chojubai. Anyway, they were cheap home center stock quality, so I went for it. I had some dragon stone from a planted tank that I tore down last year, so why not.
I'm aware that it's generally not best to repot these in the spring, but I don't want to start in the fall, so I did it anyway.
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the initial composition. Hoping to slowly expose the roots as they grow and eventially get in into a shallow pot. I'd also love to get a bit of ramification along the way. We shall see.
For those that are interested, the cultivar is 花天女 (hanatennyo). The flowers should be white, with flecks of pink through them.
Looking forward to seeing lot's of RORs!
