Wood Filler?

I have an abandoned thread graft hole in a mulberry. Should I just seal up the 2 holes? Is wood filler good material? Are there any shrink/expand issues?

I might try cut paste instead. Stays a bit flexible for much longer than filler. Depending on the size of the hole you could use either the toothpaste style green slime, or the gray paste in a tub. If the hole isnt very big, the slime would probably be fine.
