I'm currently in a mad rush to finish wiring my Larch before they bud out. These two were collected on fall 2015. I'll post a few more to this thread as I go. I love old bark on Larch.

Working on this forest start. I didn't wire some of the more tender tertiary branches, I'll wait another season on that. Planning on adding a few smaller trees this spring near the back.

Love the forest! I assume not wired in if you have intentions of adding more trees to the composition.? Won't you compromise the roots of what is there by adding to it later?
The trees are wired in but only about 1 wire per tree. The trees I would be adding would be small so only minor digging around would be done. If I start digging and a lot of root work would be needed I may wait.

Here is another...
If anyone has any styling tips let me know.

Looks great! Since you mentioned adding some smaller trees, it should look much better. It could use the depth that some smaller trees would add, I believe.

Thanks Lance, Im thinking I may just do 2 added small trees this year and then add a few next year.

Just curious, do people prefer forests with a little more character in the trunks or is straight trunk with taper better for forest? I like both.

The curves in your young trees look as if they will grow up into the older ones.

That makes it very believable they are in a forest together!

Whatever you add......
Keep the negative space in the center....
And try not to make it too "pathy".

And keep with the "same forest" look.

Nice.

I'd say all that matters is what you prefer for this planting! You've got an odd number of trees & it seems good to me spacially in 2d so keep it up!

Wow! You have some really great material to work with and have done very well with setting them on the path to bonsai. Keep up the good work!

Need much shallower box--it will help develop fine branching and better bases.
Ahhh things you wish you new. I think I might want to wait to replant into something shallower as these were all collected last spring. Maybe next spring into a shallow tray? Thanks for the good tip, it makes sense.

Also, Im hopeful on the Birch but if it dies it will have been fun in the process. Ill call it an experiment. I have a few others.
