Sorry….. the forest is American hornbeam. The ROR is Japanese maple, post #4. The last one is hawthorn, post#6. I sure would like to see more posts here. Naked trees are always fun……..

@ABCarve How does this one look leafed out? Could you provide some more details..... Total age? How old were they when you started the forest? How long have they been in training? Reason for me asking is because I have some AH saplings I've been growing out for a few years now. I am planning to put together a AH forest on a large slab this year. Your forest has been very helpful so far in providing ideas.

American Hornbeam forest
This is the beginning of an American hornbeam- Carpinus caroliniana forest I started in 2016. All of the seedlings were taken from my woods. Oddly enough, the wire on the trunks was used to straighten them out as they were too contorted for vertical use.

My Amur maple got an angle change, and hard cutback to build better branching going forward. Wiring, and repotting into its first bonsai pot to come In the spring.

Amur Maple Progression
I bought this amur maple (acer ginnala) from Owen Reich. The tree was grown out for around 25 years by Randy Davis. Once I took a look under the hood, it has good structure and a great nebari! As with bonsai, more work is needed to take it to the next level! I hope to get this beauty show ready...
