Windswept Juniper in training

Very funny friendly different.

Sorry Davevall. I was at work....
That is a dope virtual tree..ain't it?

To me....the base says GO LEFT....
That IS a sick ass base....but the heavy right makes me want to see the whole thing go left.

I'd dial in a canopy here, or even on top and continuing to wiggle up.
That could be sexy..aviary-image-1454023152161.jpeg
I like that Jin, I'd steam it over....to keep it a little tighter. Maybe shorten it a bit.

You did snap on the windswept, I just wish the whole thing was going left...
Hell if you can switch it....I would.

And then I think you will have accomplished this hard to accomplish style!

IMHO, that base is wicked sick, I'd like to see it holding an old leaning beast in the ground.

IMO, this tree doesn't want to be a windswept. As has been said, windswept is a hard style to pull off. For this tree, you've got your branches going one way and the trunk going the other. The trunk leans to the left, but the branches are bent toward the right. Notice the windswept BNut posted. See how the trunk leans with the branches? That's what a good windswept should do.

Very funny but I'll stick with what I've got and work on that. I guess everyone on here today is a comedian. I thought that this was a somewhat friendly fourm but today I'm finding out different. Advice and criticism I welcome, sarcastic replies not so much.
I see you have posted 37 times.... I think that's plenty to know people around hear are very friendly ..... but can also be very sarcastic. ..don't let it get you down! Put a smile on your face!

Or there just really tring to give good advice but it's hard to tell when you can hear how there speaking in there own head.

I say your tree is very nice and on its way to being a nice peace of art.

But the trunk going the wrong way did pop out at me too.

You just have to know Sorce. I think he is actually trying to offer good advice; he is just hard to understand. I go into Google Translate and I choose the "Sorce > English" options, and then everything is good :)

Is that a city skyline in the lower right on the shore? My guess is it's Hong Kong.

Maybe it is just me. I saw the skyline and thought "how cool".
To me it looks like the artist placed the viewer on a high bluff
[where the tree is] but the 'background' is across a harbor/bay
at a good distance with a city along that side of the harbor/bay.
Or did I read this all wrong?

I'm not sure... that is the best photo I have. I can't tell if it is supposed to be a city, or stone pilings, or just some random design element. It definitely breaks up the shoreline design. I have to admit I never thought of it as being a city skyline until rockm mentioned it.

[EDIT] I went back to the original image and magnified it as much as possible, and it definitely IS a city.

Lose two thirds of the left branch. Jin the remainder.

The lefthand branch is awkward, visually complicated and doesn't make much sense--if the constantly blowing wind comes from the left and goes to the right, how can that left hand branch shoot straight out into the wind for more than half its length then shoot straight back?

This tree is vastly better suited for an informal upright. Unbend the left hand branch, keep everything and work on pushing back new foliage on all of it closer to the trunk.
At this planting angle, yes it is certainly a better informal upright... If he leaned it right a bit, and did what you said with the left branch... It could improve the windswept feel a bit! Perhaps not a masterpiece at that point, but better... I would look at an angle more similar to the tree Bnut posted.

I would echo all the comments about windswept being "difficult" and everything, but it would feel like piling on at this point- AND let it be said that just because something is DIFFICULT that does not mean it should not be attempted! Windswept may well be he "Everest" of Bonsai styles... But plenty of people have climbed that damned mountain (and God knows how many have died trying)...

That's is part of what makes it so cool! Everybody who looks at that planting sees something different. It is clearly "speaking" to people though and that is what good art does whether a painting, a Bonsai or a penjing!
