Curious too. It is one of my top favorite styles but they can get out of hand. I have a hornbeam I am developing in this style but it has taken the whole year off just to grow crazy.

i attempted on with a small beech, which has been moved on now
i think beech is a good species to try it with, as they usually only put out one flush for the season so a little easier to stay on top of with careful directional pruning
these are nice
although maybe in the temporary storm/harsh winds category
