Wiltonii - My First Creepy Trunk Hunt 🌲

I like that hole through the trunk... very interesting. I would be tempted to stick a gem or something in there for the tree to cage.

The second tree you posted looks like it is stretching its arms out to grab you, great foreboding posture.

So for a new nursery stock, pushing green...is it just best to trim dead stuff, and then let the plant mature without doing much work? Or making big decisions like initial shaping and letting it grow out bigtime...this goes along woth Sorce's concept, just seeing how you all approach.
Need to plan a bit when growing juniper as they don't bud reliably when pruned to bare wood like deciduous do. That means keeping some parts you plan on keeping as bonsai trimmed to maintain good healthy growth and plenty of green. The growth comes from sacrifice branches - parts you do not plan to use in the final tree.
Some examples of shimpaku juniper sacrifice growth to thicken parts of the trunks.

On juniper bonsai sacrifice branches are often turned to dead wood jins after they have achieved what you want. Some future jins are marked in white on a couple of those photos above.

Very cool and useful, thank you. Very sinister, this sacrification! Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
