I have accumulated a fair number of plants now.
Following @leo in N E Illinois’s direction, I figured I would make a thread about all the other projects I don’t feel need their own thread.

So, I guess I’ll document this little silver maple patch I put together first. Pulled these from the side yard.00AD3BFF-4E57-4FB2-B74A-0E10658A13A0.jpeg9FB4E887-1E25-4722-B6F0-6F0BEE54AE40.jpeg
Next I got this 10$ Menard’s dwarf shefflera.

Another Menard’s purchase. American larch.

I hope to pot this up next spring. For now, just basic pruning. ✌️

T-BONE. a garden juniper.
when I purchased this, it was soo thick that I had to force my poor hand into the foliage and look for a trunk. Very stabby.
well I felt a trunk, but didn’t feel the straight up T in there.
Anyways, big flaws aside, this sucker is pretty photogenic.

Opinions on a front? ✌️

Opinions on a front? ✌

I like your thread.

About the juniper. The "T" is a visual problem. I see 2 possible cure's. One would be to cut short and then Jin the stub of one side or the other. The other possibility would be change angle of the trunk. This would put one side angling up and the other would cascade down. To turn it into a full cascade, or semi-cascade the upward moving branch will need to be shortened, but not removed entirely.

Hope these ideas help.

Thanks Leo. Yeah I figured one would have to go. Haha. Will be a tough costumer.
Wouldn’t b soooo bad if Both sides of the T weren’t Borderline symmetrical, and totally horizontal! 😂B9484ADC-CE28-4BE9-98E7-BF4B03F7D16F.jpeg
Yikes.

Think seriously about tilting the trunk, that move alone will change the visual impact of the 'T' dramatically.
I masked of the side I think I would remove And gave her a tilt

I’m thinking of losing the left -larger- bar of the T, as it is currently as thick as the trunk. 🙂

thanks again for your help.

Guess I’ll get these on here.
-Austrian black pine Purchased May 2020.
Just trying to study up on this species. Reduced candles when I brought it home.

I’ve had this nishiki willow planted for 4-5 years now. Currently about 30” tall. It’s been beaten up pretty bad.
main limbs have all been removed from a few little disasters.
1) A silver maple branch fell and took a big part of it, as well as partially uprooting the thing.

2) the following year, In a fit of rage, I threw a patio chair across the yard....... and...... there goes another branch.
Stupid fool throwing things. That’s what I get.

3) The only substantial branch that was left I cut off because it was creating big bulge-inverse taper half way up the trunk. Well.... I used a coping saw , and cut a little too deep!🤤
I’m wondering if any of these new shoots will develop enough to handle a winter.

Next spring I will be pulling this out of the ground, and into grow box. As U can see the north side (right side as pictured) of the tree is pretty bare. Got to get some more sun on that side.

Another Mugo attempt.
Man that huge wound is a thing of beauty. And that base! Would u just look at that base!? 🤣 Haha!
Suggestions are very welcome!
Thanks!

I love how succulent cuttings hang around looking good weeks after chopped.
little kalanchoe flower accent. Just stuck in this little dish w/ a little D.E. Would b neat to see it root. D01DC3FC-BA5F-4580-BDF8-C369E1310C90.jpeg

I’ve been aware of this volunteer elm in the shadiest part of my yard for years now.
The big chop was probably a couple years back- just trying to kill the bastard. 6D0D5231-FBC6-4EFE-A37F-676BB51212F4.jpeg

Now, I’m like, is this thing worth digging up?
Base is 1.75”.
I spaded around the base this spring to see if that would aid in possible collection later.
Definitely would be a carving experiment to get that stump looking at all interesting.

Hmmm. Any thoughts or advice?
Run away?😄

DIY repurpose. Pots!!
I thought I would do a craft with the kids.....
I knew of course this was really for my enjoyment!😁
The misses gets samples all the time for her interior design works. Some tile samples.
The sample boards got thrown in the fire to get the cardboard and adhesive off.
Then a little hardware cloth/mesh, and some hot glue!6C7F5990-23B6-44B1-982E-3801949FEC7E.jpeg
Holy jeezzuss out of focus!
Then we glue it all together.

Now, I’m sure the hot glue won’t last. If they hold together for one pot,....then that’s awesome! Etsy rock star!!!

I forgot to add this little guy.
My first Amur maple.
I’ve been told more than once to try out Amur maple - Acer Ginnala-
Finally found a volunteer amongst all the silver maple seedlings in the yard.
Of course no photo of when transplanted this spring.
But I remember it only had 2 sets of leaflets.
Fast forward to today. 35751A9D-741A-4296-957A-6469A4E7313F.jpeg74F5C9CD-D917-4592-8CC4-2F00BFBB2D37.jpeg
Little bastard is about 3.5 beers tall!

This is a great candidate for a raft forest. Bury the horizontal trunk and wire up the side branches for your trees.

Hm.. If you think these projects do not warrant a thread... What does this tell you ?
Hmm....
-Maybe a group thread is a great way to catalogue/keep track of their progress while not plugging up the forum with weak threads on each.
-Maybe I’m trying to keep too many buddies.
-Maybe I’m lonely. 🥺😆
