These are the two pots I am considering for my cork bark elm, made by Rob Addonizio of Taiko Earth pottery. Both are beautifully glazed with a nice subtle crackle texture. One will be for my elm, the other for a rugged trident maple. The thinner one is 2.5" at the rim, the thicker one 2.75". I think I know which one I like. I would like to know your opinion on which you like better for the elm and why ? Thanks.

If my choices were between these two pots only, I would choose the first of the two. It seems a bit heavier which would suit the tree.
I wonder if it is a chunky enough feel for this rugged tree?
Both pots are lovely though.

Well I thought about a more rugged pot, but the ones I looked at really seemed to draw attention away from the tree. Also the tree has really good movement and the curves of the pot complement that. I really like earth tone glazed pots, so this was the direction I went. And yes, I like the first pot better for this elm.

I don't like either one;). They're not so much earth tone, as much as they look to be pastel. Their shapes are much too passive for such an overpowering trunk. This tree is not graceful, it is powerful. It makes a statement and underlines it. The pots aren't capable of sustaining that image.

A deepish rounded square with matte green/grey glaze would work. Even a matte glazed drum would also support it well.

Look here to see how W. Pall pots heavier-trunked deciduous trees--deep, plainish pots with somber uneven or even half glazes. No pastels or much textured pots used...

To each his own, I guess. I don't care for deciduous trees in drum pots, or even rectangles that much. I guess I will find out in a few weeks, ha ha. If it doesn't work, I have a couple of tridents that will work for it.
