Hello, I have 2 larch saplings that are about the size of pencil, maybe 1.5 pencils. From what I know I should wire them in the autumn so that they can still heal a little bit before winter.
I plan on really bending these puppies, I want to make them really gnarly and I was wondering if I should do it now or in winter.

The one’s we have here were bent in the late winter and are doing really well, but one might check out @leatherback ’s channel or PM him as I believe he works with a good deal of larches.

Also check this out

cheers

Larch seem to be bullet-proof here.

example: December wiring, kept outside all winter. Tree was NOT frozen when I wired it, but did get several deep frosts. Did not loose even a single branchlet.

That is a very nice tree. Congrats on owning it.
Also, what are the chances of a bud popping on it's trunk, basically 0 right?

Well, I decided to bend the larch now, while it's still fairly warm outside (way too warm for this time of the year but oh well).
I wanted to make them really nice and gnarly while they were still thin and flexible and so I did that. I used I 3mm wire to bend the lower half and 1mm the upper half of the trunk, one of them I even double wired with 3 and 1 mm just to make sure it wont snap. I would say I've done an alright job seeing as I haven't even heard a squeak while I was bending 'em.
I will maybe post them here tomorrow and perhaps I will keep updating this thread as time goes on.

I also plan to clean them up in winter so I can see all the branches and select some, them bend 'em too.

This larch was quite a bit taller than the second one, so I had a little more to work with

And this is the second larch

Perhaps I'll post some more pictures in winter after the cleanup cuz you can't tell what is happening :^ )
