I look after my mother's trees. It seems that my son is eager to take good care of hers and mine.

I was a bit alarmed when my wife explained her plan for my trees if something happened to me. It was surprisingly good. The longer I thought about it though, its unlikely she'd incorporate my trees into a plan if she was just in it (my demise) for an insurance check. My daughter also said she'd probably want one of my trees.

OMG you guys are killing me

(1) Gift them to your best bonsai friend
(2) Gift them to your best bonsai garden - the best to keep, with the authority to sell the not so best for the advancement of the bonsai garden
(3) Sell them via auction at a bonsai show
(4) Sell them via auction at Facebook auctions
(5) Sell them via auction on eBay. Use lots of fancy terms like "specimen"... meaningless to people who know bonsai but maybe you can get a poor sap to pay more.
(6) Sell them on Craigslist.
(7) Give them to your family. Worst case - plant them in your landscape!
(8) Put them on the curb... "take me please!"
(9) Pay someone to remove them...

... at city dump. "Hey... aren't those bonsai? Hold my phone..."

This is pretty much what prompted the question - a plan that isn't shared with anyone (or even better, written down) is essentially useless in this situation.

So … I guess the lesson here is to sell or donate them whenever you feel you can no longer give them the proper care anymore. One can also use the woods from all the bonsai to make his or her an awesome coffin lol.

If you can use the woods from your bonsai to make coffin, I think you have too much deadwood and need a carver.
