i just bought a fukien tea online and i was wondering what're some after care tips after receiving a tree in the mail?

Grow it like any other tree. Keep it shaded for a little bit then expose it slowly to the sun.

is this an indoor or outdoor tree? ive been reading that it can be both. I live in NY so do i keep the tree outside in the summer and bring it in during the winter? the tree is coming from Miami florida where is it currently 80-70 degrees. Is it safe to expose it to the NY spring weather which is about 50-70 degrees?

Usually I like to unpot it- I want to see the roots so I know what I'm working with.
You can put these outside for spring and summer. These trees attract several types of pests. Watch closely. I keep mine inside for now. You can trunk chop these if desired. Don't cut off to much roots at once though- reduce those slowly if needed.
May I see a photo? It may sulk for a couple days and lose some leaves but they bounce back with vigor if given warm temps and steady watering.
Plant in a good free draining soil!
I have a pic of one in my avatar right now. I just cut it off about two weeks ago. It is back budding well.

We will know so much more when we see the condition it arrives in...

If it is healthy and in good soil, you are well on your way.

I like everything above the pot.

Cut the rest off!

Or layer it!

For as Much as I hate buying online...
From out of zone...
And Fukien tea!

I got nothing but good things a to say!

Nice grab!

Looks good! I have a couple and keep them outside above 45 degrees.
In full sun you get more and smaller leaves and plenty of back buds after you trim.

Outdoors at roughly 65F or higher first year. 50F following years. The plant is USDA Zone 10 ;)

I actually love your tree! Posh at @sorce cutting anything off...its cute and I actually like all of it! Which the poster may too. Which was why they bought it. It's something I would have considered buying. Good score!
Thank you both. I'm exited to get it in the mail. I hope it will do well in the NY weather. Here are some more photos from the seller

I've had most my entire collection shipped via mail. I think @amcoffeegirl with her repotting suggestion knows the species of tree. It's not something I've done with mine. Also none were the species you purchased. Deciduous trees and conifers have appropriate windows of opportunity for the most part when repotting. Great advice above...Grimmy also gave some great advice about not letting it get the cold you may see until the following year. Depending on where the tree came from. My Ginkgo came from a place that seen snow for winter. I know this...so it's not as babied as others which may have came from away California or down south. But...anything which came out of a box...needs sheltered for awhile and acclimate into the habitat that it's known to love. Say...if it's a sun loving tree.

I think if you just protect it...my rule of thumb with being in a microclimate. If my weather states it's to be 55 at night. I assume 45F. I live at a lake...and temps are a tad cooler. But...I feel to be safe for trees that can't handle super cold...to always subtract from weather forecast a buffer of if they have it wrong. We've not been forecast for frost...and had frost. My buffer of seeing temps cooler than forecast has always worked in my favor. This can go indoors when it's to cold. And back outside during the day when temps are warmer. We call that the bonsai two step.

Your tree is A LOT larger than I anticipated! Wowzer!

So keep them out in spring/summer and bring them in during the winter?

Yes and indoor care depends on Sun. A window area that gets FULL East or West exposure will work. Keep it about 18 inches away from the window as the night Winter temperatures closer would be a little to cool. If there is no area for that a simple indoor full spectrum light setup will work properly done. It need not be expensive and pretty easy for a single plant. I can spec a simple setup for you when the time comes if needed ;)

It is basically a Tropical and should be acclimated and grown a year with no work until you are positive it is healthy. Timing on that for the owner would be middle of Summer 2018 although Long Island is listed as USDA 7 I am pretty certain it is 6 ish.

Until then water, light, fertilizer and light trimming is all it needs.
