What makes a good bonsai club?

Member numbers are not all important. Quality is. Too many clubs I think focus on getting member numbers up instead of improvement. I suppose it's good for the coffers... but sometimes, these become social clubs more than bonsai clubs.

I think bonsai clubs serve a dual purpose. A place to do bonsai, but also a mechanism to spread the bonsai love and encourage new people to give it a try. Fresh membership is always a good thing. I guess the trick is keeping enough content to keep the more experienced growers challenged.

Well I was going to say beer but it seems as if you have that covered already.

I'm serious though, there is a time and a place for it in a more social setting. That's why I'd hold meetings at the pub so you could have a drink after if anyone wanted.

Also you know what I'd go for, camping trips.
And it seems like with the right amount of thought and location it would be a brilliant way of doing a Yamadori hunt and no doubt there would be loads of knowledge being passed around the fire at night as well on the hunt.
I'd definitely be up for that.
