An owl would have took it to a nest or at least somewhere with less human activity.

My cats hunt squirrels all the time.
Sometimes they bring me a present.

After further reflection, this was gifted to me between 10 am and 2 pm. Definitely not an owl. I have seen a neighborhood cat wander through now and then....

That's why I thought it might be an owl. They often decapitate prey and just take the body. But this was a daylight raid, so, owls are unlikely.

Hadn´t seen it since "The silence of the lambs". You feel scared when you see this gigantic (5 inches) insect.....

It's an Acherontia atropos
It's not usual to see it here.....I guess climate change
