I ordered an acer rubrum for a bonsai project I'm gonna try and was given some fresh maple seeds with it.

Is there anything I need to do with them before planting them?

I'm in central Florida in between Tampa and Orlando if it helps. Right now I have them in the refrigerator.

I would fallow what this site says

Basically you need to cold stratify them for 90-120 days. Then you can plant them.

Fresh maples seed germinates without stratification or any other treatment for me. I collect trident and JM seed to sell or give to customers, store it through winter then throw out any lefovers into the grow beds late spring. Germination is prolific even though the seed has never been refrigerated or stratified.
Most sources recommend several treatments for maple seed. I think that's probably based on older seed that has been dry stored for longer. I believe that dried maple seed enters a deeper dormancy and needs several triggers to begin germination.
