Wanna see an old braided benjamina fusion? (spoiler alert: it still looks crappy)

I laughed out loud when I discovered this in a local retailer's "Island of Misfit Trees"(http://www.bonsainut.com/index.php?threads/the-island-of-misfit-trees.18023/).

If your definition of Bonsai requires a tree to tell a story, this one certainly does; it just doesn't seem to me to be a very good story!

Anyone want to hazard a guess how long it took to get to this point?

In a pot like that? It would take a while. 20 years or more. In the ground? I don't know maybe 10 years.

Did you buy it?

Any pictures showing more off he tree from a distance? From the pics I would not have guessed it was a fused trunk, just some kind of weird weathering effect on the trunk.

No, sorry, I didn't get any better context pictures. I just thought it was funny how regular/consistent the obvious seams were. I also recall that I could sort of mentally "follow" the individual original trunks through the weave to where they emerged from the woven part to be individual again (just above the photo's upper edge).
