Ulmus Parvifolia dying?

Your help is priceless! Will do as advised and hope to see that bonsai like it's never been seen before. My last is question is really if I should use a bigger pot or if I can reuse it's current pot.

By the way - I just re-read your opening post. Don't do any pruning. Leave it alone and focus on proper watering and getting your tree into better quality soil.

Sem problemas. If it were mine, I'd see the next steps with this tree as restoring health then branch/root development. A wooden grow box is a good choice for that.

That is a great way to put it into perspective. These few days havebeen eye opening in many ways. Is this the grow box you mention?

That is excelent! When I bought this tree, it's trunk had been cut , so as to generate a Broom style. Will using this training pot allow for the tree to grow, or will it simply become healthier and grow more foliage?

Spring after budburst to summer. Otherwise replace per markyscott's advice.

What Zach says is correct. For elms, the ideal time to repot is in early spring - when the buds begin to swell until they begin to harden off. So to be extra safe, watch for your buds to swell in early spring and repot then - whatever month that is.

If you repot in winter, it's very important to protect your tree from freezes. In your climate this should not be a problem, though. I live in zone 9 as well and repot throughout the dormant season. It's not much of one where I live - pretty much late December to early February and that's it. In fact it's not really that much of a dormant season at all.
