I brought home a pomegranate a few weeks ago. I most likely walked by this tree before - was much easier to see trunks with leaves gone.

Was looking for something that resembled more tree over bush:

A few issues I'd like to address over time:
  • Front: the blue arrow points to a knot from two thicker branches. Red lines are very straight.
  • Back: red arrow is a dead stump that is causing the trunk to bulge with the branch to the left growing around it.

Maybe some of these issues require a substantial cutback down the line, but I wanted to keep the work light given the time of year.

I'll wire out the rest of the branches over the next few days. Eventually would like to lower and shorten the right most branch, but it would require a notch or other technique.

If it doesn't pop lower buds in spring, a mid summer prune may get it to.

I wouldn't worry about the top beyond utilizing it to change the sizes of those trunks, they are quite equal now. Will you keep both?

I planted the above two poms together (along with a third) this year.

The tree on the right is a couple weeks behind the others, but starting to push now.
