Turning Chinese Pepper (Zanthoxylum) from nursery stock to a bonsai

Hey guys!

I'm new to bonsai and I'm looking for advice on the initial pruning of the Chinese Pepper tree (bush?) that I got a local garden center.

The style I'd be going for would be something like this (not sure how to properly call it):

Here's the original photo of the raw material that I have.

And my initial ideas (cut back to either yellow or red line), clean up the bottom to show the trunks a bit.

I'm also not sure if it's too much for a tree to handle if I go for hard pruning of both the branches, the roots and do a repot at the same time. If it is too much indeed, then what should be the best order?

I'm no expert, but heavy pruning and repotting at the same time can be risky depending on the species. I'm not familiar with this particular tree.. Looks pretty cool though and i think you can definitely style something along the lines of your inspiration pic
