TJ’s Big Siberian Elm

Well I appreciate the honest feedback. So are you thinking about like this?

To be totally honest, I have to say that I don’t find the base to be offensive in any way. I think that ground layering it as above also loses the first section of movement. However maybe I just am seeing it with rose colored glasses because I really like the tree 😃 I will have to think about it more. Thanks!
Yes. That's what I had in mind. I know you would lose that bend and the movement. For me, the reverse taper right at the base is jarring. Others might not be bothered by it at all.

Well, I am going to repot it in a few days, so we’ll see what the base looks like after I get it repotted and into a different container. Then maybe ground layer in 2024 if still needed.

Are you not going to try n put V cuts or anything in those flat saw cuts, they look a bit bulky and flat atm, do nothing for the tree really. Im even thinking to take that left knob clean off. Will enhance the movement of the trunk and take out some straightness. Im re thinking my first thoughts about the fork.

whats rest of the tree look like from here?

I am planning to carve the big flat cuts, just haven’t got around to it yet 😃

So is this what you’re thinking about the left knob Bobby?

I think you’re right about that, I was just looking at the tree on my bench the other day and had the same thought. It makes that straight line much longer and more noticeable, I think.

yes it juts out like a sore thumb mate🤕
If this was my tree, id be now inclined to chop low to that branch on right. Like someone suggested one the earlier pages. (David) suggested

Well between the ground layer and the low chop, there’s not going to be any tree left! 😂
