https://photos.app.goo.gl/Qx8RoBTfhhtof3km8 This is a project I started last year. I was at Forestfarm nursery "shopping" and asked if they had any Little-leaf Linden.
First he said no, but then maybe he might have something. What he had was a Swiss Tall Linden that was nearly dead, but the root stock was Tillia Cordata and it was flourishing. It was a freebie, and to me that's like mother's milk to a baby, or more like heroin to a junkie. LoL.
Last year I removed the old trunk and sawed off half of the pot bound roots. Potted it in pure pumice,1/4".
This spring, a few days ago I bare rooted it and flushed out all the nursery soil and removed the rest of the tap root and a bunch of ropey roots. Then put it back in the same cut off nursery can and 1/4" pumice. I'll top dress with sphagnum when it starts getting warmer around here.
