Honestly, I was a bit concerned when I received this tree last spring… You’re absolutely right that the pot is pretty darn small and the soil is very compacted and hard to wet. The simple solution, other than watering it four times a day, was to put it into a larger pot full of fairly moisture retentive soil. The larger pot serves as a moisture reservoir and keeps the smaller pot from overheating. It also allows the roots to grow out of the smaller pot through the drain hole. It gets watered once a day in the morning, even during the heat of summer… Like now .

Hi everybody

I’ve really enjoyed this thread and thought it was time to share my only black pine

I bought it a year ago at a bonsai show, pulled quite a few needles and slip potted it into this tokoname pot I had on the shelf: a suishoen from memory. I was told it’s 7 years old

Anyways I really don’t know a lot about black pines, I’ve just studied the basics of decanting and ramification. It’s not a very special tree by any stretch of the imagination but I like it.

Would be great to get some advice/thoughts on it

I like the trunk thickness and I want it to stay small so I guess building branches is the next step

My boxwood in unknown pot on broken concrete stand. This was a smaller extra tree in a one gallon pot purchase last year that had a bigger boxwood. It was standing straight as an arrow so I bent it into a semi cascade.

Leptospermum juniperus , an Australian native . I made the pot , so it's a Sno pot . I am trying to grow it in a wind swept fashion ,the pots shape is to represent the top of a hill . It's usually lower in the pot but it's grown well this season and is pushing itself out of the pot .

Just saw this thread.

This photo popped up on my timeline from a Shohin Bonsai Seminar sponsored by Pedro Morales in 2010. I was impressed with the quality of the bonsai displayed and also the set up. Here is a Dwarf ixora I liked. Don't know anything about it except that I feel it is excellent and was one of my favorite trees on display.
