The other fused-trunk privet

These plants like your privet offer a lot of potential to create some really nice bonsai without having to fear you are destroying are rare old masterpiece or breaking the bank to get there. I constantly kick myself over all the potential bonsai I destroyed in my yard over the last few years before I got back into bonsai. We had several huge privets like these that got whacked with a chainsaw when we first moved in. Then I took out a stand of chinese privet in the far back yard. Next went a bunch of old azaleas with 50-60 year old trunks. Along the way I killed an old Japanese holly but left one that now is in a grow box. I now how feelers out in the neightborhood for anyone planning to replace old plants. Good luck with your project.
