This past weekend I began my second large batch of seedlings, this one much more ambitious than the last, and with better equipment and experience.

Korean hornbeam, trident, JM and black pine have all stratified for the last two months. Tridents have already sprouted.

What's the season where you are? Did you cold stratify them or doing it over winter naturally?

It’s full winter here in upstate NY. I started to stratify these back in the beginning of October. Planted a week ago today under grow lights and on heat mats. I’ll grow them untill spring and then move them out for the regular grow season, potentially do some root work then.

Update 12/18/23
Days from planting: 7

Tridents: 25/100ish
Korean hornbeam: 1/150ish
JBP: 1/60ish

I have lights on 14 hours a day, Anderson flats with 2x2x3 cubes are filled with a perlite/haydite/sphagnum mixture 2/3s up, then have a layer of 50/50 perlite and small soil fines with coco choir.
Bottom heat is on all the time.
Fan to exhaust air and a second to circulate air in the grow tent
I have a lizard mister set to mist for 30 seconds once an hour. (This is more for the chojubai cuttings than the seedlings, but I’ll see how my damping off factor is and adjust)

Update 12/27/23
Days from planting: 16

Tridents: 40/100ish
Korean hornbeam: 40/150ish
JBP: 50/60

The JBP seeds have all but one or two sprouted in the last ten days, and have almost all ahead their seed coats

The tridents have slowed and a lower number have sprouted than I thought would, a handful have their first sets of leaves, albeit a little weak

The hornbeams have exploded in growth as well, with more and more pushing every day, one or two have their first real leaf as well.

I have sprayed from a household spray bottle a weak solution of kelp and some other weak ferts

Nice work!
This gives me hope. I’m trying some outside.
