Just thought I would post pictures of what I am doing.I guess I am not the most serious Bonsai man,but I totally respect anyone who put's effort into what they are doing.I tried joining a club years ago and they met on the wrong day's for my schedule.I am finding I like trees that are easy to care for.I have a big 'yatsubusa' elm.Very easy to care for.Backbuds constantly, everywhere on the tree.I also have found small zelkova broom style particularly easy to make from seed.No wiring involved and that appeals to me.I also like 'chojubai' quince.Tough and no wiring.I am exploring layering techniques for dwarf Japanese maple.I have recently separated three layers.I learn a lot from Bonsai Focus magazine.I want to get more 'yatsubusa' elms.I have Coreana Hornbeams in the ground on tiles, but honestly,I would rather have some 'yatsubusa' elm in the ground.

More things

I love growing in colanders.I like growing in colanders for the obvious reasons, but also cause' I do not worry about my soil mix when it is in a colander.I have built some tables that have rain protection and the clear polycarb also serves as 7% shade too.The zelkova's love that.I can also just throw a piece of lattice on top if I want. All my tree are gonna' be in colanders this spring.I am going to continue developing til' hopefully when I retire(in about twenty years). Here is a pot of moss and the leaves I fell in love with of 'ojishi' Japanese maple I layered. And the tree.

The Tables.

Here is a shot of the tables, earlier this year when the Coreana's were growing bionic before I put them in the ground.I am actually leaning away from them now. They seem fussy.I overwatered them in the ground cause' the rootball was drying before the surrounding earth. The leaves on a few of them seem quite tired.Maybe everything will even out next spring after I cover them more with surrounding earth and I will not overwater. The trunks on them range from 1-2".I do not like fussy trees. They were doing fabulous in the colanders, but I could not keep up with the watering.Roots were growing everywhere. We will see in spring or summer,if some are lagging I will replace with 'yatsubusa' elm.I gotta keep them Coreana's that are doing good because the color is quite nice.

Loved the layered look KH foliage takes on, almost automatically. Yours are looking very happy.

If you haven't already, take a look at some of the elms still for sale on the Evergreen Gardenworks site; he has some serious material you may find interesting.

Really nice job, good clean workspace, and you seem to have hit on a good method for yourself and the trees.

Yea,it is tempting.Maybe next year if he still has some.I can also travel to meehans in spring. It is nice how his are already in Anderson flats though. That would be fun to develop branches on.I also was considering some of the one gallon stock for the ground.

Nice neat setup along with decent stock :) I am looking forward to next spring and having a new built from scratch area after we move.

Elms and Maples grow like weeds here either in ground or potted. Maples require a windbreak even if it is burlap over winter until mid-spring. Elms just do not seem to care

Well, something tells me you won't find too many of these.I just had to have this 'yatsubusa' trunk.Seems to be about 4.5" at the base.Enjoyed the 'yatsubusa' I already have this year,so I am looking forward to getting this tree in my care.I believe the picture is from 2012 or so.I hope it is just a bush now.,with a rather nice trunk.

I am not too worried about pruning branches with this variety.I have seen 1/2" branches just heal over in a couple months.
