First repot in 2010 I've dug through hard soil and removed the original burlap. Took me a while to figure out what all that stuff was doing there. From there it was impossible to dig deeper without losing vigor. In 2012 I did dig deeper and at some places against the trunk. The big root lays in the way to have a perfect view. In 2019 I think I will repot and find if I have something to uncover but I'm not counting on that. I don't repot now because I want for the last time maximal backbudding from this year's cutback. It is not that there are big roots way down I think so It schould be ok.

Dirk, another excellent piece of work. It is very clear you are willing to do things the slow way. Slowly building your tree, step by step. Allowing branches to set, create taper, shape and maturity before moving the tree into a "nice pot". Instead, you are nice to the tree, which ultimately leads to the best results. Very nice project, cngrats to you,and of course, to Danny who is helping youstay on the path, I am sure!

Thanks for the thumb up. I see this as preparing material and now the bonsai work can begin i hope. I like to take neglected or bad or cheap material and giving it a second chance (not that it always works out).
