Picked up my live oak from winter storage this weekend. Spring has arrived. Going to be 83 today and no frosts forecast.

I had to build a big box to tote the tree up the Interstate, since I have a pick'emup now. A $100 box beats a $600 topper.

Thoughtseriously about the trailer, but went with the $100 box.

I rented a "$19 a day" van from the local U-Haul to get trees to a show a couple years ago. Found out my particular local U-Haul store's "$19 a day" special is really $79 per day, plus gas and mileage (which would be about 110 miles round trip for the oak).

They charge mileage for vehicles but not for trailers. Trailers are fixed rate, flat fee. But, you have nothing to show for your money when done. With your box, you still have the box, and can use it again and again and again, and the cost to you remains the same.

Nice looking tree, btw

Between you and me, I am dyslexic when it comes to driving a trailer. I once had to back a friend's 20 foot boat into the launch ramp and, well, it wasn't pretty. ;-) There would be LOTs of backing down dirt paths and fences to get the tree. Don't want to lose it because I'm a really bad driver.

And also a shout out to the b'nutter that helped me move this on Saturday.

I was tempted to ask how much you had to pay someone to help move it ;)

Nice looking tree. We finally have some spring here (70 for us) so most of the trees are now outside and growing. Which means I'll be doing to two-step at some point as we'll definitely still have a few frosty nights to contend with.

Really nice tree!

And at least you have a pick-up truck.
We have a Chevy Sonic, couldn't even fit the crate in the trunk, not to mention the tree :)
Too bad really because there are some even bigger and more amazing crates everyday or close to in the dumpster at my job:(
