Today on the way to the compost bin I checked my larch amd they have little green buds showing on the American and a few on the Japanese. So I decided to look over the rest of the collection. Buds on all my tridents are ready to pop soon and my elms have swollen. My water elm stored in the garage even has a few buds open and extending. Japanese maples, Zelkova, Korean hornbeams, amd even my bald cypress have little green buds ready to pop. So I spent the afternoon pulling them all out and giving the pots a quick clean. I now need to spend a few days sifting pumice, permatil, and pine bark before its too late to repot those that need it. Amazingly it looks like I only had a couple small J. maple seedlings that may not have made it. No buds on them yet. Looks like a repeat of last spring so I’d better get the bed of the pickup cleaned out!

So I finally took a few minutes to shoot some photos of the bus popping going in here. Some of it is still too early for good iPhone shots such as the little green beads forming on my bald cypress and swelling buds on some other plants. Also my BRT has new vids swelling in the axils of just about every leaf stem so it should be a monster by the end of this summer. But here at least are a few that are clearly doing their thing.

First my big trident with lots of leaves out and more on the way. Buds are also pushing in the stem itself.

And here is a J. maple clump in progress. I started it 2 years ago at a workshop and had 2 main plants die. So I just added the replacements plus I have a dozen or so 1 year old seedlings that will eventually be added to fill in and make it into a forest.
