Split-top Douglas-fir

Extreme/frequent top damage redistributes energy into lower branches.

Peel-away/split damage is often the result of one side in a forked tree giving out from uneven weight distribution between forks and seam failure. The junctions in a forked tree accumulate debris and moisture which lead to rot.

The left fork of this fir is larger, with unevenly distributed foliage, and an outward lean. It will likely be the side to fail. A bulbous seam is expanding where the two trunks touch.
