Species Study - Salix Lucida

In conversations with @Lutonian , on my Exigua species study, I realized that in my area, we really ARE "spoiled for Salix"...

So I kept this windfall last year.. Shining Willow.

I am REALLY falling in love with this one...

To the right: An average leaf from the tip of whip/trunk/ling(it IS a seedling)

To the left: An average leaf from second-lowest growth point.

Far left: Cruella DeVille bait

Thought horse boy might like this .. Sight is Canadian national arboretum. Ottawa Canada . Last 2 pics are American elm not many left after Dutch elm this size here . Trunk is about 5 feet across last pic is from ground level straight up

I'm getting that early leaf drop here, gearing up for a COOOOLD winter.

I have to update all my threads... I've finally got a new phone.. and cannot access all the prior pictures of work I performed throughout summer... So I'll most likely have to just use new images and EXPLAIN what happened during the season.

The pics are a week ago Saturday . I like the willow . Now nothing about them makes you wonder . Why people plant Chinese weeping willow . ( poor storm survival ) always amazes me how native trees are ignored . If it’s from somewhere else has to be better right

Native species will ALWAYS be the hardiest... When I went through my "trying to grow a bunch of fancy plants"- phase... My HUGE climate swings from season to season... Killed off MOST zone USDA 4-5 'fancy plants'... IN a winter lean-to...

For plants to thrive HERE..... they have to KNOW "Here"!

Apparently the Wisconsin weeping willow is a more cold hardy variety.

Apparently the Wisconsin weeping willow is a more cold hardy variety.

I had, actually, never heard of this tree before.

I wants one... Fer ma'yard.

Oh yes, I am familiar with the signs... I've seen them before... The people up here SPEAK of these "adaptive measures"... And the season is being predicted/termed "Unreasonably Cold" Winter... On all the meteorologist broadcasts.

Apparently the Wisconsin weeping willow is a more cold hardy variety.

The Chinese weeping willow is cold hardy enough people plant them here . Problem is just when they get nice they suffer storm damage they are not strong wood tree . But people love the weeping effect .

Maybe the most prolific country regarding the diversity of flowers in the world.

I still, am very impressed by the Shining willow. And look forward to documenting my analysis, in more depth, DURING the next growing season.

I have a handful of Lucida cuttings, that were planted on flat cement bits in July.... So come next spring summer, may have some to let go of CHEAP (probably just have you pay for shipping).. if anyone wants to to try... They are hardy to USDA zone 3..

I see pictures of them in Winnipeg, one of my ancestral "homelands".
