Sorce 6 Year JBP contest entry.

@sorce ,

let us know how the ones with the curly cotyledons grow.

Caution - the cutting off the stem under the cotyledon may not be for
better surface roots [ eagle's claw [ but for getting a better, lower response
with regards to budding and the cut down [ when your top grows to say 36 inches
tall and you cut down to 3 / 4 inches height for the next step of training.]
Good Day

How long are they supposed to be in the fridge!?

2.5 months later!

No pests at all go Marigiold! Flower!
Absolutely no growth on the seedlings..
Ohhh pooh Marigold, hogging all the nutrients. Imbalance!

So the seeds thrown in the fridge....are still in there!

More are popping though.

This one was "seedling cuttinged" while still in the pod. About 2 weeks ago.20180519_072552.jpg

I wonder why we don't do this early on?

Thos is one of those new waxing moon poppers...
May be a Barberry though.

Did them earlier last time some in the seed. Less success and less roots. I think they need more green to produce roots?

It seems...I'm wondering if there is a early stage maybe...like 1mm or less out of the seed...

Where there is still enough energy in the seed itself to make roots.....

I'm not having much success with anything....
So I'm experimenting!

And then the High Sorce, remembered he only needed 5 to 10
seedlings to go for the prize.
Goeth Sorce groweth.

Hi Source,
Since you have so many JBP seeds, why don't you try this? You just scattered the seed on the ground, I mean regular ground in the yard, and water every day as needed. You should see a lot of new seedlings arise in one month. That is from my friend's experience. He had a lot of Korean black pine seeds which he got from Korea. Because of having no time, he just scattered the seeds on his yard. A month later, multiple seedlings appeared. A year later, he removed these seedlings and put them in 4" square plastic containers. It was so impressed to me.

Any way, will you start wiring your seedlings next year?

I would wire them after spring growth. Or maybe in fall.

S
I read somewhere that the images in Bonsai Today #20 aren't representative with our climate and that our trees get to the same size (where you wire them the 1st time) in fall where in BT#20 they wire in spring.

I hope my Engrish made sense :)

A bit of a look at where -20 with snow cover took place.

Found this...in the very center of my "cramped for autowater" table.
Must have been a bird.20190817_093238.jpg

Topped off with some Frary mix and some small DE.20190817_093359.jpg

This one went for more a bit after the Solstice.20190817_093246.jpg

Great simple tight rootmass by the way.
The part exposed there is the same as the other side, nice round mass.
