Some photos from GSBF Convention 20122 "California Dreaming"

The monterey pine is not a pine from California, as in, Monterey California, but a pine from Monterey Spain. It was not collected. It was grown from seed.

Not totally clear on what you are saying here Al. Monterey pine (Pinus radiata) naturally occur in only 5 locations. 3 on the central California coast and on 2 Baja California islands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinus_radiata). Despite that isolated range, Monterey pine has become the most widely planted conifer in the world due to it's fast growth and quality timber.

I made a phone call. I have missunderstood. The pines were claimed for Spain by Cabrillo along with california.. They are indeed indiginous to Cal.

Thanks, my bad, Al

Thanks for resurrecting this just in time to remind everyone of the 2016 GSBF Convention once again at the Sacramento Doubletree Hotel October 27 through 30. Hope to see some of you there!
