I've tried different plastic scoops and none lasted. I finally found and been using this 38oz solid aluminum scoop and felt like sharing since it offers great value for $7.75 free shipping if you are Prime member or order $35 or more.

I also have the the 58 oz version ($11.95-I paid $6.56 on sale) but felt it is too big.

This should help make the repotting season a bit easier. :)

I have had two soil scoops that have not failed me for over 40 years ! I call them left and rightie. Hands on the best soil scoops that I was born with.

Ed,

Have those too but with rough soil components (lava, pumice, DE, turface, etc.), I prefer not to abuse leftie and rightie. ;)

I have a 3 piece set that works fine for me. When I need to move a larger volume of media I have an old soup can that works great. I didnt have to wait for shipping.

That is great and good for you but this post is clearly not for you. It is for everyone else who may need or looking for a good but affordable scoop.

I use an aluminum scoop like the one you posted as well when repotting. I use a larger 58oz version when mixing soil.

Most Pet stores also have scoops like that for dog food- for around the same price.

Thanks Bob. My plastic ones are from pet shop actually (dog food scoop as you said ) and never saw aluminum in stores near me.

Smart and Final has all sizes

I have a green plastic scoop that I found at Walmart or a dollar store, I can't really remember. I think it holds about a quart. I haven't been involved in bonsai long enough to put much mileage on it, but I can't imagine it wearing out.

I use the cups thrown at Mardi Gras parades. They are durable and even better--free!

I like to have purpose driven tools. Yes a plastic cup would work, but I usually use those for lime sulfur applications and then they get thrown away. Then I go to doing soil work and the cup is gone. By having a scoop dedicated to soil it gets used for nothing else and it's always where it's supposed to be.

Thank you! I just ordered 3 different sizes there :) I have never had much luck with plastic or scoops that are two pieces. One piece metal will service us well!

While i understand the use of a scoop I don't see the need. Solo cups for me.

I'd rather put my money toward a new tree.

Some of us work with large stock and the needs are quite different. Many of my specimens are in 20 gallon and larger containers right now and there will be 5 more this Spring. Good scoops that do not bend or break are needed.

20 gallons! You don't need a scoop, you need a dump truck!

I repotted a tree that took 40 gallons of soil this year. Solo cup no good.
