To be honest, this one is a bit too much for me...

Mind you, if it were mine, I would defend it! But I wonder what it looks like when in full leaves.

I have one, a Malus sylvatica that started a bit like that, also grown from seed collected in a nearby forest, but what I liked was the basic trunk, and making it a "credible" tree is more and more difficult.

The latest photos I have, August 2016 and March 2018. Since then, it must be in the jungle in my back garden somewhere.

Maybe I should put it into the ground somewhere, clip and grow, and just keep the base of the trunk...

Great results, a very interesting experience.
On Wikipedia, I read about Ulmus pumila: "However, flowers emerging in early February are often damaged by frost, consequently the species was dropped from the Dutch elm breeding programme"
But we're not really interested in elm flowers, are we?

Another cool thing is the seeds will sorout in 2 days with just a drop of water and also store frozen for up to 15 years!!!!
Personally I say these will blow away chinese elm in many aspects.

ACER BUERGERIANUM 'NOKORIBO' TRIDENT MAPLE​

I’ve had this one for a few years … some years it hasn’t even dropped its leaves. And it can stand direct afternoon sun.

I am going to grow more of these Siberian Elm.

I found it so inspiring that I ordered a batch of seeds : an A5-size packet with "about 120 seeds".

And no stratification needed, so I just put the sealed packet in the fridge.

Currently my favorite Elm.
If certain species I attempt to grow need all the chems and fungicides……I do not grow them.
To lazy I guess…….Siberian Elms are fine……Total sun lover….
The larger leaves would defoliate well which is always fun to get a second spring!
