I dont think Ive ever seen a procumbens with that kind of foliage...

Also wow, nice trunk movement on that one.

Man, another nice one. The foliage does look more like a Shimpaku though.

This is a very nice tree. Are you sure it is a procumbens? It looks more like sargents to me. I would have to disagree with you about them reverting fast even with all day sun everyday. I think it took member Thomas J about 10 years to get his to revert. Also, I have been working with 2 relatively old specimens for about 5-6 years and there is no sign of reverting. However, I want them to keep the juvenile foliage. When properly managed, you can get a pretty compact look. Also, it is best if the entire tree has the same foliage. One or the other.

**edit** As far as the lots of sun and foliage, it might be more for tropical climates. I was speaking on my experience in the Northeast. However, I believe Thomas J is in Texas.

Looking at the roots, it looks like it was maybe air layered? Was the trunk laying on its side at one time?

Awesome looking tree.

It is possible that the Florida climate is what causes the growth to be dominantly adult. However if that it not so I would consider San Jose Juniper. They start out looking like procumbens Juniper and go adult easily. The adult foliage on the San Jose looks just like this tree.

Same species of tree as mine? Mine was ID'd as such...confused...so as an adult its foliage changes?

Yes. Yours has what is called "juvenile foliage". The tree Sawgrass posted has mature foliage. Different kinds of junipers change to but varying degrees. Some keep mostly juvenile foliage, some completely change, some have both.

Sorry but my money is on "PRO" strata. Never ever once seen a procumbens, nana or otherwise have a hint of mature/scale foliage not to mention a lot of it. I live in so cal similar enough to Florida. Not buying it.

You my man need a big slice of humble pie. Just saying. I'll bet $100 that's not a procumbens. Open your eyes along with your mind.

FWIW according to USDA our climates are virtually identical for the most part. If this info is somehow wrong or outdated I will have a slice of that pie with you.

Well, man... then it sucks to be you !!!
Besides... I have lived in Both Florida, and So Cal and
seeing that you know everything, you would no that our
weather is nothing similar...
Have a good day !!!

I certainly don't want to start anything but come on why do you thinik you have to insult anyone who disgrees with you?

I don't think you are lying nor have I pondered what would motivate you to lie about this I just think you are wrong with what you thought your plant is. It happens. Out if curiosity if you can recall what led you to believe its a procumbens in the first place?

Nathan these are all Procumbins from Kenji Miyata all have adult foliage. I know for sure they're procumbins because I sold two of them to him. They had the typical needle foliage then. I belive that Dorthy(Cascade) has shown some procumbins with adult foliage.

This is a beautiful tree. Any idea how old it is? Ive got one that is similarly shaped with a tiny trunk that I would love to grow bigger.

Bob thanks for the pics. Now that I see them I suppose I have seen them with adult foliage as well but it's so tight it's hard to notice. There's still a huge difference between that foliage you posted and that of the foliage on the tree in this post don't you think?

Yes there is a difference but it's most likely due to Kenji's techniques.

It was from a mother plant used for cuttings at a nursery for about 20 years, I had it for a few and Kenji bought it from me about 5-6 years ago.

Because of the fact that every time I have ever posted a tree here
at B-Nut I have had to deal with endless questioning of what I had
posted...As though I am the one who does not know what they are
talking about... and just making stuff up, or as what has now been
proposed... I don't actually know what my tree is... I mean really ???
It gets a tad bit old all the time !!! As well as insulting...

Haven't you ever purchased something that turned out to not be what you thought it was?

My 2 cents is that the problem that I see with myself, Dario, yourself and perhaps a few others is that we are still green and it shows in our trees along with our posts. That doesn't mean that your trees are not better than the majority of those posted on these forums however there is still a lot to be learned and that's evident. Nobody likes to be told what to do by somebody that they do not yet respect and to earn respect you must prove yourself in any arena that you are in. No offense but you have not done that yet nor has Dario nor has myself. In actuality very few here have. I think I could name them on one hand. Now let's get back to eating some of that pie together Dario would you like a piece?
