@Anthony I just took a few cuttings from a green Buttonwood and make them up like this with Peat moss and Perlite. Do I put them in full sun or just in bright shade? You think this two cup method will work?

Hello Paul,

bright light, and with our humidty at 50 ish %, we only cut the leaves of
the buttonwood in half and remove about half.
But you may not need the cup.

Still test one with cup and one without.

Also ask around for the smaller leaf buttonwood. The guys on
your side said they found a few plants.

Look up Phoenix Graft.

Paul,

Shade is best here, sealed up like that, it will bake in the sun. The cup is good to preserve humidity and helps the cutting survive, just not in the sun.

@Anthony I cut all the leaves in half but I left 6 or so leaves on the cutting in this particular one you see in the picture. The others I left 4 leaves and cut them in half as well. You think I should leave 2 leaves per cutting? Cut the rest off?

You’ll probably end up with way more than you could have wanted. I think 95% of the cuttings John sent me struck, and so now I have a ton to work with. They’ve been vigorous growers for me thus far.

They've moved on to sea grape and buttonwood. You're probably talking about serissa cuttings.

Its very humid here but not this time of year. Like right now the humidity is only 48% because of a cold front but normally it's 80% to 100%. I've tried cuttings in the past with no dome and they just die but I think i put them in regular potting mix, not peat and perlite. I gave up long ago on cuttings because I was never successful.

you explained your problem --------------- cold front and 48 % humidity
Can you try when you also back at 80%
Also yes, dome for the present.

But ask @0soyoung for temperatures needed for rooting cuttings.

I have seen them come back from worse. I would go ahead a clean out all of the stuff that is obviously dead, maybe give it some dappled sunlight. There is some growth that looks good compared to the rest.

As Hall & Oates would say, She's Gone. On a more positive note, the repotted cuttings are looking good. If they stay that way I'll send you one in about a month or so.

I leave them go like that a full year, a few have come back but I ditch them earlier if the trunk looks like it is splitting and the bark is separating.

I just keep watering it everyday in hopes it will come back from the dead one day.. and then I can scream "ITS ALLIVVVEEEE, ITS ALLLIIIVEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Here is the one I was telling you about. It looked like this last year:



I thought it was dead, but I kept it watered and did the "semi ground-layer" and here it is today:





It is a little overgrown now, I am just letting it grow for now to help it recover from whatever malady it had suffered from.
