Long story short I ordered one and what was sent has recently leafed out and I'm 89% sure given it has 7 to 11 lobed leaves that it is indeed not what I bought and though tag says it's suposed be I have gut wrenching feeling it's mis tagged or something. I have emailed the sellers company and asked they make it right but never dealt with Mr.Maple before and also had issue with my lil prospect witch hazel not budding out or any leaves . Anyone have Sagara nishiki japanese maple who could see if I might be correct or if I'm wrong. I've obly seen 5 lobed sagara nishiki photos thus far...

Just looked at some photos. I'm seeing both 5 and 7 lobed leaves.
Ok, hopefully it's correct then and as the leaves harden off they'll look like the pictured variegation it is ment to have. Sorry if jumped gun and got worried. . Just made me nervous. I've never dealt with them before so got worriwd I guess wrongly

@tigerscott79 I have a Sagara Nishiki arriving this week from The Tree Center. Their photos show 7 lobes on the leaves, but I'll let you know when it gets here.

On a side note, Mr. Maple is located here in NC. I haven't personally ordered from them before, but they are definitely maple experts, and I'd be shocked if they sent you something that was labelled incorrectly. Accidents can happen though, of course.

No worries. I've since been shown and told they can be variable lobes. What's wild is it starts out green as leafs out but then about month later the variegation shows along the leaf edges and lobes like a dusting until it's solidly edged. Really stunning once it's started and finished. But at first I wondered the I.D. because threw me off . Not that I doubted where I got it from, but of anyone's worked at a nursery , they know plants can lose tags , get miss marked , i.d.'d ect so just was wondering but not any more . Absolutely love this tree cultivar a lot.

I'm really looking forward to getting mine. I have so many Japanese Maples already, and whenever I get a new one, it's always difficult to decide if I want to bonsai it, plant it in the yard, or make it a patio tree in a big pot. They are without a doubt my favorite variety of plant (hence the username). Satsuki Azaleas are probably 2nd, but it's a very distant 2nd. I have a 'Purple Ghost' Acer palmatum coming this week as well. Really excited about that one.

Speaking of mistakes, I ordered a Key Lime tree in a 5-gallon pot from the Tree Center last week, and instead of that, they sent me an Alice Oakleaf Hydrangea in a 3-gallon pot. Figure that one out. The two aren't even remotely close to each other. 😆 To their credit however, they immediately sent me the correct tree and let me keep the hydrangea (a $100 item), which works out fine because they're one of my wife's favorite plants.

That's always nice when places are good like that, but that also works out well in end for both parties especially since return shipping in end would cost an arm and leg versus just writing it off I supose. Yea I truly love japanese maples since prolly around 14 when a bonsai-ist friend I met when was in middle school she came for classroom presentation. We became fast friends and over the years I'd visit her house and help with hers . She's since passed but she'd travel to Japan and go to exhibitions and shows and was always amazed with her trees and knowledge. I only dabble and don't have much to show but at 45 and medically retired have wanted to do alot more. I agree Satsuki azalea's are gorgeous. I haven't researched them so I should , ik some types are not hardy here zone 5/6 some are same with rhodedendrons though idk with latter if bonsai material much. Hydrangeas are sweet also. Yea key limes and hydrangeas are quite different lol
