Root oxygenation and container choice

So, roots obtain more O from respiration than from the water absorbed? That's pretty debatable.
The water stays the same, no obtaining oxygen from it, the pumice, the liquid fertilizer, akadama, any liquid, solid or any macro or micro nutrients in the plant that are part of the system that it exists in. The water stays water until it remains in or around a cell until desiccated, or split via chloroplasts

Does a root hair uptake water and the plant subsequently process constituent DO in the uptook water piggyback-style within some of it’s tissues? I know I would.

Why is the sky blue? Why is water wet? -Gza

So the O that is exchanged for CO2 in photosynthesis doesn't count as O used by the plant. Or taken up either. Only O as a gas is O. My bad.

Blue light is scattered in all directions by the tiny molecules of air in Earth's atmosphere. Blue is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time. Closer to the horizon, the sky fades to a lighter blue or white.

Being a liquid, water is not itself wet, but can make other solid materials wet. Wetness is the ability of a liquid to adhere to the surface of a solid, so when we say that something is wet, we mean that the liquid is sticking to the surface of a material. ... Cohesive forces are also responsible for surface tension.

So even though your roots are down, they still in the air?

"Metaphysics, here's an example cause I'm speakin of it
Put your hands in the air, but you must be aware
That even if your hands are down, ain't they still in the air?"

Here you go guys. That's how plants work.

I like wooden (fir/spruce) boxes because my conifers have mycelial connections, and the fungi seem to love eating the boxes. Extra carbohydrates for my plants, stable microbiome, greater protection against extremes. What's not to like?! Algae. That's for sure. But you win some, you lose some.

That clarifies everything.

Returning to pots.... ;) ......there are also plastic bonsai shape pots that have bottoms almost like Andersons but not quite as boring.

Wait....

What does the bottom of an Anderson flat look like?

What type plastic?

Do roots break them holes?

I made a grow box out of 2x6's and 1/4" hardware cloth. I criss-crossed the cloth to try to get to 1/8". Simple, right? Nope. I didn't get the second cloth tight enough, so there was a gap that allowed some particles to escape. No big whoop though. Eventually it clogged up enough to stop the escape. Used 2x4's on the bottom to help lift it off of the ground a bit to allow airflow.

Guessing polyethylene. Like a sturdy dishpan. I'd ...KILL.... to have roots vigorous enough to bust through. 😄

Though it could be a good thing, if your roots are content in the pot.🧐🤔

They have to be. I train my roots with a whip. I may not be a master, but I make my trees call me that. ;) :p

If not they get busted with the florescent and choked out with the extension cord running it!

Uh..tooo far? Lol.

May I take this opportunity to quash all my comments about gro-lites, blanket wrapping, Miracle-Gro, and electric turntables?
These are all either ugly rumors or results of Bacardi rum.

Where do you guys get you Anderson flats? I've looked, but can't find them at a reasonable price.

Try Stuewe and Sons pots in Oregon.
