Questions about getting started in making pots

Don't do anything until you take a class or several classes. About 10-12 years ago I took pottery classes at the community college. I did it for 4 years straight and if I had the time I would still be doing it. The instructor was very good but the real value of the class was having several people together sharing ideas and techniques.

During the Covid shutdown a studio I go to had to get creative to keep revenue coming in so they set up a program where you buy clay from them and take it home to work at home, then bring it in to dry and fire.

Some studios may let you do that if you ask. One of the requirements is that you must buy the clay from them and usually it's marked up, but that's another way to to get your pots fired without having to pay for lessons.
