Hello,
I've had this one about a year, bought online through walmarts dealer. I have done pretty much nothing and have not been able to see the tree yet. I think I need to cut at least one of the tall branches off but not sure which and not sure where to go if I do cut them.

Any ideas?
Virts welcome. I don't mind it taking awhile but I want to keep it healthy and looking at least ok while getting there.

Thanks!

Here it is

Haha I had some complications there are two can post more or diff angles if needed

have not been able to see the tree yet.

May be that's a sign! ;)
may be it's trying to tell you to wait until you actually see something there.

Otherwise, if it was mine, I may very well cut the 2 main branches, after air-layering them.

But you know, that's just me...:)

Watching thread, I'm layering 2 pyra's at my parents place very cool and sharp. I want to make a masterpiece from it also.

I have had tremendous success rooting hard wood Curtis from Pyracantha... unless it is some branch you just could not stomach losing I would recommend taking a few cuttings, moron them in perlite and ai bet most will take!

As for the tree... A hard cut back would help it. MAlain has about the right idea IMO, but you see it in person so you should be able to see better than us what the ideal places to cut are. Could prolly get 2-3 cuttings from each branch you reduce.

Ok, for cutting should they be in 100% perlite?

And would this time of year be good?

Yea I've been staring for a year and don't see it so I'm in no rush lol

LOL, autocorrect fail! Plant your Curtis tremendous hardwood into pearlite.

Hey Curtis...

50/50 with peat moss is nice..

You can mist it wet without float and disturbance....and I feel it stays more even..holds em better.

I just thought today...
About how nice it is to have cuttings in clear sided containers....or Colanders perhaps....

But to have to think about it beyond a stupid easy visual is senseless IMO...

That goes for airlayers too.

Ok I think Ina try to do cuttings tonight then, not sure if I have peat moss or not, if not I'll just do 100% perlite I suppose

I had a veteran local bonsai guy tell me that Pyracantha was tough to grow locally because they are susceptible to Fire Blight. Sure enough, I had a huge one that got it, and it was a slow and painful death (painful for me to watch at least). I guess you are supposed to spray them in the winter with a Copper fungicide and keep them out of the rain after pruning it, as the pruning gives a place for the bacterium to enter.
