I posted about this juniper a couple of weeks ago and got a lot of tips and advice, I applied some of them out and this is what I ended up with. I am not finished yet, I'm taking it in stages so I don't cut too much. What so you think? On the right track?

Much nicer and more compact for sure but I honestly do not see your goal yet. Can you do a virt of it?

As I mentioned before, I think there is a better front if you turn this a few degrees counter clockwise.

Also, pic 4 of OP really shows a potentially nice shohin. :D

Much better. I always hesitate with suggestions when I can't see what branch is holding what pad of foliage. But two seemingly easy cuts are on the top left. I see two branches that come from the top pad of foliage into the pad below. To me those are the kinds of things to pull out. They add no visual benefit. What I don't know is how much foliage they are adding to their destination.

The other spot that seems to need some clarification is the bottom left. It seems like you have a long branch that comes down low and a branch that is already down low. Maybe one of those goes to the back to add depth and that is important. But it seems like two branches are in the same area. IMHO simple is better.

You have a very healthy tree, the color says that it is doing well. I like how you've narrowed it and cleared it out some. Go at your pace and at your level of comfort. Sometimes design is easy and sometimes it will come to you over time. Thanks for subjecting yourself to the opinions of the masses!!

More Work

I did some more work recently, I am working on chasing the foliage back and shorting the limbs. I need to so more on the apex. How does it look so far?

The second or third photo's in your first post make good fronts. The Pro nana backbuds well so you are on the right track, its looking good.

This is coming along nicely. Nothing wrong with taking your time. Looks like you could thin the top a little bit.

Procumbens in my neck of the woods tends to be an exception the "don't take more than 30 percent rule". I have one that I cut 90 percent I the foliage off. Just wanted to test a theory and it was dirt cheap. I got huge amounts of growth on the branch I left, but also got back budding all over the trunk. No joking. I would not be worried about cutting this species back too hard

Nice looking tree. The crown needs work. I have a couple and that is the area I have the most trouble with. They get very tight with growth up top. I think you need to make a decision about where you're going with the crown...
Best,
Jonathan

Update:

She filled in really well. I have done a lot of wiring, pruning, pinching, etc. I removed the jin on the lower trunk and shorted some of the branches to create more taper. I hope to get her into a new pot in the spring and establish a new front. What do you think?

I think Dario may have been right about that shohin though!
You ever consider it?

I like it either way. This looks way better now!

I think that is a real nice pot and in 3-4 of those pics, it looks like it is about to fall off your bench!! o_O

Good looking tree man... Needs a trim and a little refinement.

WoW! That is what I think - sure wish I had your growing season! Funny you said a "little trimming" that would take me a half day! I am curious if that is the same as a juniperus procumbens nana?

It was close to the edge, l was rotating it for the shots. I was thinking of going with a round pot. What do you think?
