I drove past some workmen ripping up some bushes this morning, stopped and had a word and they promised to chop them and leave them to one side for me to come back and collect later. I went back this evening and picked up most of the trunks that looked like they had enough roots to survive. I'm thinking they're either Ceanothus or Cotoneaster but I don't recall ever seeing flowers or berries on them. I've only got the one picture from this evening as it was under an underpass with very little light, but I'm going back in the morning hopefully to get a couple more as they continue working. I've attached the link to google maps showing them in daylight, albeit not very close up.

I'll upload some pictures of the trunks tomorrow, as you can imagine, being at the edge of a very busy road for the last 20 or so years they were very, very dirty with exhaust dust so I've got them soaking overnight with the hopes I can get most of it off tomorrow.
