Hello all. I’ve stumbled upon this tree for a wicked deal and has to grab it. With what I thought was an interesting shape at the bottom I bought it and started air layering it. At this point I’m trying to think of either how to maximize the amount of air layers to maybe make a forest type thing in a few years, and to shape the mother tree itself. For a nursery find it’s quite beautiful with really orange new growth. It’s quite bushy with short node length and a lot of the leafs are quite small which makes me believe that there maybe a long term path to putting this in a bonsai pot.
Take a looks at a few of the trunk photos and a markup I’ve done and let me know what you think.
The tree is about 6’ tall and maybe 5’ wide.

also it’s basically encased in clay. When should I start reducing rootball? It’s in a 25 gal nursery pot.

Welcome to Crazy!

With so much room, your container should be at least an Ice Cream Bucket size across. And no thicker than the cut section.
