Hi everyone. Here are a couple native Florida pines I found at a local nursery along with a few other tropical bonsai in my collection. I am treating them the same as Black Pine and candle pruned them last June. They had a nice second flush of 2" needles, which I thought wasn't too bad for the first candle cut. I just thinned the old needles out and here is what I ended up with.

I'm going to try and repot this late winter and cut down the plastic pot they are in now down to about half the size. Anybody out there have experience re - potting these pines, and know how they take to root pruning?

Thanks,

Dave

That first picture shows a pretty good candidate for a formal upright. Excellent bark! Have you done any nebari investigation?

I haven't seen any nebari yet. They are just like they came from the nursery. I would like to think that I can cut the nursery pot in half this winter with out killing the tree. They do have great old looking bark. Thanks for the reply. e\\

I have seen Dorothy's work. Very Nice!! I am hoping that they make great formal uprights, I see so many full size ones around here and these look like they could look like that relatively soon. They may be grafts taken off the tops of full size Slash Pines some where. I've read somewhere that that is done.
