In the last 6 years I have been getting into bonsai trees. I have plucked a couple western hemlock from stumps and grown them for a few years, then repotted once I found a suitable bonsai pot. I also have a white pine, douglas fir, and shimpaku juniper. Also a small other type of pine

A very nice start my friend. At your convenience please put your location in your profile. It helps when you are discussing your plants. Some are in your zone, and some halfway around the planet.

Welcome aboard. :) Nice trees, it looks like you have a great spot to get moss from if needed. Did you collect all your trees?

I collected most of them, the white pine, juniper, and douglas came from someone as a gift a while ago. The two western hemlock trees in the pond pot were collected from a stump 4 years ago. Then I have a blue spruce and another western hemlock. I moved and the western hemlock didn't take a liking to the change, I need to check on it now that I think of it. The spruce is doing well. I will wait a while before repotting to establish a nice root ball.

Also thanks, yes I have a great local for moss 😉. And thanks for the welcome.

Hello all my western hemlock bonsai have grown more and more over the past few months. My douglas and white pine seem to be doing alright. I will be looking for pots for them in the spring. And my shimpaku juniper has grown. It's still doing well. Let me know if you have any pointers for me thank you all! I also have a small tree I plucked 5 months ago in a pot pictured I'm unsure what it may be.

I guess the tree is a blue spruce that I collected a little while back.

Hmmm looks more like a douglas fir to me. Are the needles flat or more square in cross section?

I was told this was a douglas.. they look different. I'll check the blades soon @pandacular

The needles are small and flat. I compared it to the douglas next to it. And the colors were off, it's got a blue hue. When my douglas is fresh and green

Young trees exhibit different characteristics to more mature ones, and that’s before even accounting for genetic differences. I’m pretty confident it’s not a spruce based on the shape and placement of needles and buds.

Awesome well thank you for the identification of it!!!

My shimpaku juniper will be getting a new pot soon. It is doing really well and I'm thinking this will be good for it. When I get to repotting it, I will post pics. Waiting on some bonsai media. Already have the pot.

Made a bench for my trees. Left one out, a douglas fir. There is a douglas for. Shimpaku juniper, sitting in its née pot. A white pine, and two western hemlock trees in pot.
