I must admit, once the heat hits the leaves are hard to keep nice. Even with a heavy water retentive mix.

Hey, if it stays alive and doesn't cast off entire parts of itself, pat yourself on the back. I have literally never seen a river birch bonsai in the making that lasted more than a season or two.
