This seems awesome! It can control 8 areas on the basic setup and can add a bunch of 8 area controllers attached in series.

I think I will get one of these for my house to be able to water during the day and afternoon during really hot days when I am at work, only if needed of course. It is controlled through arduino so I guess you can configure it to no water if raining or add some mist if it is really hot or whatever you can think about. It is opensource.
