I plant a bunch of Trident seeds every year...some how I always end up reusing some of the soil the following year and there are seedlings that pop up in places they shouldn't be. These seedlings were pulled out of a couple trays of small collected wings elms. This work is done out of season (late July) but young seedlings are pretty tough and can usually handle it with appropriate aftercare.

Here is go...

Cute but seems like they will quickly outgrow those pots/arrangements

Neat. They could even be used as an accent planting. I always have some extra cuttings or seedlings that I don't know what to do with every year - maybe I'll try this out next year.

My first reaction was "cute" but I didn't post it because it seemed dismissive. How about "appealing"? I'm interested to see how they develop.
Aw but they are cute. I don't see anything wrong with that

I'm with Michael, I'd like to see how they develop. Do you have any older arrangements like this John?

I have had many over the years but folks always seem to like them more than me:). If you can keep one of these going for 5-10 years you'll have something special. I always use the the second pot/tray method...nestle them into a tray of fine gravel. Remove periodically to trim roots. Prune judiciously...

Got 100's of japanese maple seedlings popping up all over the place at home from our 30 year old landscape tree. May have to give this a go.
