Yeah, that's rough. FWIW, Jack Frost is a sneaky bastard and it can form when temps are nowhere near freezing. When it's low 40's to high 30's, clear and no wind=frost.

Indeed!! You need to check your current dewpoint, and estimate it at 12-2a.m...

I've realized frost at 39 degrees before, and don't doubt situations would allow this to happen in the low 40's, too!

Forecast is showing low thirties here this coming weekend. The early warmth and late cold already took heavy tolls. So far I've lost my prized Live Oak and Rainbow Eucalyptus. The tamarinds and Royal poinciana are hanging on by a thread. All these guys budded early and the tender buds died when temperature gets below 40. Hard hard lesson for me.
Where in Louisiana are you?
 
I'm just happy I got across the Salinas River today. Yesterday several routes were blocked by flooding, but two remained open. River is going down now, thank goodness.
