Absolutely crazy winter we're having here in CA. We've been getting pummeled with constant rain here on the coast. The Sierras are seeing record snowfalls. This coming on the heels of historic drought is enough to give a person whiplash. Thankfully are reservoirs are filling back up to get us through the next possible drought period. Weird and extreme weather are just going to be the new normal.

My friend just sent me this picture

I put 2 tall trees on the ground UNDER the bench. They're only whipping around like a gerbil on meth.
The tall juniper is on the cabinet next to me in the living room.
I suppose when the roof goes, it too will be whipping around like a gerbil on meth.

FUCK THIS WINTER !!!!

They've gotten a lot of snow, but not that much. That photo is a famous place in Japan: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Chubu

I got my hurricane-like wind and rain a couple weeks ago.

My (closed) patio umbrella took flight and landed about 20' away, along with some patio furniture cushions. Considering the winds, we got lucky. It only knocked over a few small plastic pots with seedling in them and only a couple small branches fell into the yard. There were downed trees all over town though.

I remember the strong winds in southern CA. A year after I moved to the East coast a tornado touched down a mile away and I saw a pine tree fly across the street and a 60ft poplar almost fell on the house. No escaping wind. I think the weather has been not the norm for a lot of areas.

The wind sucks, but I can't say I am not loving the rain. Enjoy it while you can, the death heat of the summer is just around the corner ;)

LOL. We are getting our first "real" snow here in Long Island, NY. 6 days to spring!

How much did you get where you are?
Where I am it was mostly rain. Some snow this afternoon but no accumulation at all.

Lots of rain and wind though

I bungee strap every one of my trees down to their table so I don't have to worry about the wind.

Wind is blowing 50 mph gusts with sustained 20 mph here (wind has been blowing since Sunday night). It's 30 F this morning. Forecasts have nighttime temps dropping to 24 F next week.

I think this is an old photo from Japan...

Forecast is showing low thirties here this coming weekend. The early warmth and late cold already took heavy tolls. So far I've lost my prized Live Oak and Rainbow Eucalyptus. The tamarinds and Royal poinciana are hanging on by a thread. All these guys budded early and the tender buds died when temperature gets below 40. Hard hard lesson for me.

Shit. Sorry to hear you lost the live oak and Euc. I'm having similar issues with early-budding on everything, haven't lost anything yet, but have in the past from drastic temp swings in the last few years. Brought bald cypress, repotted satsuki and trident inside for the last few nights. Will have to start bringing in other stuff as buds continue to open on cedar elm, maples, and other stuff and even colder temps are forecast through the middle of next week.

It was hard. It got warm for a whole month straight then temperature one night was supposed to be in mid 40's yet that night the sky clear up earlier than expected and temperature plunged. When I saw frost on my windshield I knew I was in trouble. Sure enough that afternoon I saw all the buds wilted. I am nursing the trees hoping for second round of buds but I am seeing the bark drying up so it is not likely.

Yeah, that's rough. FWIW, Jack Frost is a sneaky bastard and it can form when temps are nowhere near freezing. When it's low 40's to high 30's, clear and no wind=frost.

Sorry to hear this.

Our Springs are usually pretty varied... This is what it looks like outside.IMG_20230314_094342.jpg

Buuuut it is safe to say that MY personal winter, was MUCH more mild than the last 3...
